Tybee will be the last taste of the States for a while for the Guardsmen and their families.
Tybee Rolls Out Red Carpet for Indiana National Guard
Between February 26th and March 5th, several hundred members of the Indiana National Guard and their families will be spending their leave on Tybee before their deployment to Iraq.

Many citizens on Tybee have expressed a desire to show their appreciation for the soldiers' sacrifices for our country and will be offering them a big Tybee welcome. Tybee businesses and citizens, will be showing their appreciation in a number of ways.

American flags, patriotic displays, welcome messages and yellow ribbons will be on display around the Island. The Tybee Light Station will be flying the American flag. The City of Tybee will decorate with patriotic bunting.

Approximately 60 local businesses will be offering military discounts or specials. This includes local motels, vacation rental homes, B&B's and the campground; restaurants and nightspots; bike rentals; retail shops and art galleries; and dolphin tour captains. There will also be specials for haircuts and weddings on the beach.

The Tybee Light Station and Museum will offer free admission for military families and the Marine Science Center will offer 50% off admission. A special Soldier Welcome Packet listing businesses offering specials will be available at the Tybee Island Visitors Center.

The City of Tybee Island will offer free parking for those with military ids.

This project is being coordinated by representatives from Tybee Adopt a Soldier, Tybee Neighbors and Mermaid Cottages.

Military families can gather more information on the Tybee Soldier Welcome Project by visiting www.tybeeneighbors.com and The Tybee Island Visitors Center.
