Park Place Outreach LEED Certified
Park Place Outreach, Inc. is proud to announce that it has received LEED NC Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design New Construction). The 6,500 sq. ft. facility opened last Spring --- a hybrid of new building construction and the historic preservation of an existing house. LEED is a certification program that encourages sustainable building practices, use of green construction materials, and high performance design to provide owners and tenants with more efficient, healthier, and durable buildings.

Architect Cowart Coleman Group and builder J.T. Turner Construction Co., Inc. hope the new Park Place Outreach will be seen as a symbol for the preservation community and its commitment to a sustainable future.

The structure was also recently selected to receive a 2008 Historic Savannah Foundation Preservation Award. The non-profit was chosen because its new $1.7 million facility serves as an excellent example of adaptive reuse. Local architectural firm, Cowart Coleman Group, designed Park Place Outreach to be contextually compatible and to blend in with the residential character of the neighborhood. The Historic Savannah Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental preservation organization. It saves endangered buildings from demolition through a Revolving Fund. It protects Savannah's historic city plan and educates the public in preservation principles and techniques, thereby enhancing the livability of Savannah's Historic District.

Park Place provides emergency shelter and street outreach for adolescents ages 11 through 17 and their families. It is the only agency located within Chatham County that serves youth at no charge who are accepted without a referral to receive help. Park Place opened in 1984. There are approximately 15-30 youth residents served each month.
