July 6, 2012 - Gary Michael Roberts, 58, of McCalla, Alabama, and formerly of Savannah, Ga., died Friday, June 29, 2012 at his residence.
He was born in Savannah, Ga., and was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Roberts and Lillian Gladys Woollard Roberts. He was a graduate of Reidsville High School, Class of 1972.
He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy, and had worked for the Reidsville Police Department for three years, and then worked for the Georgia State Prison, as a Correctional Officer. He was the 1st Civilian, Certified Smoke Jumper in the Ga Fire Academy at Forsyth, Ga. and an EMT.
Roberts was a musician who played in the Blackwater Band in Reidsville, Ga., and the Southern Accent in Brunswick, Ga. He loved to play the guitar, and loved to sing, especially gospel music.
He was an avid "Gator Fan" and loved sports.
He was a fiber optic specialist and project manager for AFL in Birmingham, Alabama.
He is survived by his daughter, Tara Candice Roberts of Charleston, S.C., sister, Linda Roberts Combs, brother, Larry Milton Roberts (Cindy) of Portage, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Ga 31406.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Friday at the Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Rev. Buddy McKenzie, and Dr. Charles Cooper, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.
