Sept. 26, 2012 - The City of Savannah is pleased to announce that Parker's, a nationally-recognized convenience store leader headquartered in Savannah, will be the presenting sponsor for Picnic in the Park 2012, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 7 from 2 p.m.-9:30 p.m. at Forsyth Park.
"Parker's is a great example of how local businesses can give back to the community in meaningful ways and support the rich culture of our city," said Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson. "We are deeply grateful for its support of Picnic in the Park."
In celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month, Picnic in the Park 2012 will feature a full afternoon and evening of live music, family activities and cultural entertainment. Highlights include performances by Eddie Wilson & The Strings of the South, Abeni Cultural Arts Performing Group, Spit Fire Entertainment, Angela Beasley's Puppet People featuring Madeline Walker Coastal Ballet and Oglethorpe Charter School Singing Titans.
"At Parker's, we feel a strong responsibility to give back to the community," said Greg Parker, president and CEO of The Parker Companies. "We're honored to sponsor such a signature Savannah event and think Picnic in the Park is the perfect fit for our company and for our customers."
Parker's gives back to customers by saving PumpPal members more than two million dollars, to area schools through donations from the company's Fueling the Community program and to the community at large by sponsoring this signature musical event.
Picnic in the Park, which is free and open to the public, is a longstanding Savannah tradition, dating back to the early 1980s. The theme of this year's picnic is "Some Enchanted Evening." Attendees are encouraged to make creative use of the theme while planning their picnics. This year, a pet contest sponsored by TailsSpin will also be based on this theme.
Parker's currently operates 27 convenience stores across the region and plans to open additional locations in Chatham, Liberty, Effingham, Bulloch, Jasper and Beaufort counties within the next year. The company is ranked on Inc.'s elite list of the top 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.
