June 28, 2012 - The Georgia Department of Transportation announces that construction has begun on improvements to the intersection of State Route 21 and Ninth Street in the City of Rincon. This project will consist of the installation of a new traffic signal, widening and reconstruction of East and West Ninth Street to accommodate dedicated left turn lanes at this intersection.

During the course of this project, lane shifts and flagman operations will be necessary to guide traffic through the work zone as the work progresses. Also, it will be necessary to close portions of East and West Ninth Street for a period of time in order to complete the construction of the turn lanes. Future advisories will contain more detailed information concerning these closures once the actual closure dates have been determined.

"We ask the traveling public to be careful while traveling through our work zone, and we regret any inconvenience" states, C.R. Jackson, Statesboro Area Engineer. "Any questions on this project may be referred to my office at the Georgia Department of Transportation, Statesboro Area Engineers Office at 912-871-1103" explains Jackson.

This project was awarded to Ricketson Construction Company of Douglas Georgia, and work is expedited to be completed within the next 6 months and a cost of $440,331.45.
